The Major Paul Syverson Veterans Sanctuary (commonly referred to as Paul’s House) is located in the former Hotel Jonas in Polk Township.
It’s namesake, Major Paul Syverson, was a highly decorated Special Forces Officer who was killed in a mortar attack in Iraq in 2004. This restored building continues to serve the community as it has for decades with beds and meals, as well as a renewed mission. Thanks to the community and countless volunteers we accomplished a “million dollar home rehab on a $100,000 budget”. This facility is located at 1120 Scenic Drive, which is the intersection of highway 534 and Jonas Road, in the town of Kunkletown in rural Monroe County, PA.
Paul’s House accommodates up to 13 Veterans a day. We serve 3 healthy meals a day that are specifically designed to help with health challenges faced by homeless Veterans. The program is dependent on community donations and our volunteers who generously donate over 5,000 combined hours per month . Maintenance, cooking, sorting clothing, delivering furniture and housekeeping are all accomplished thanks to our volunteers
Unusal volunteer opportunities exist sorting clothing and delivering furniture. If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunties, please call (570) 664-6468 or attend our monthly meeting. We especially encourge Veterans to come out and provide positive role models. Our volunteer meetings are 7:00pm on the first Monday of each month at Paul’s House. Thank you, the Vets salute you!!
