Thank you to 28/22 news for sharing information about VALOR Clinic's Stand Downs, and speaking to our wonderful Volunteers! For Veterans in need of basic necessities (including clothing, footwear, and non-perishable meals) and connections to supportive services; providing hot meals for the homeless and essential items to community members in need.
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Men and women who served our country, and are now in need, are getting a helping hand. Valor Clinic Foundation hosted what’s called the Wilkes-Barre Stand Down on Sunday.
The event behind the McDonald’s at Market Street and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard provided clothing, food, and various resources for veterans in need.
Volunteers also assisted at-risk individuals and families.
“We go out into the field. We let people know we’re going to be here. They can come and get socks, underwear, gloves. You know, it’s important to help them out, and it feels good,” Valor Clinic Foundation Volunteer and Veteran, Richard Snider, explained.
“It’s cold. People don’t get out. They come out to this and brave the weather. It’s not snowing or raining today, but it’s a good time of year to do it, ’cause they don’t have a lot of support,” Ron Kukla, a Valor Clinic Foundation Volunteer and Veteran, told 28/22 News.
Valor Clinic is always looking for volunteers and donations.
For those interested in volunteering, our next Wilkes Barre Stand Down takes place on Sunday, March 1st, 2026 – from 9:30 am until 1:00 PM. To Donate, Volunteer or Learn more, please call 570-534-2854.
