69-WFMZ-TV Report: Local Non-profit Seeks Donations for Easter meals for Veterans

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. - A local non-profit for veterans is asking for donations for the Easter holiday. They're asking for hundreds of turkeys by next week.  Tucked in an old Boy Scout camp in Monroe County, a small army of volunteers are working to provide meals to veterans this Easter.

"Wrapping your arms around this beast is quite the experience and at the same time super rewarding," Leia Collins, manager of the food pantry, said.

Veterans Assisted Living Outreach, know as VALOR, has been helping Veterans in the greater Lehigh Valley area since 2012.

"To take things off (veterans') plates, because people have a lot of worries at this point. Income is always an issue," Collins said.

This Easter, VALOR will donate free Easter meals to 700 families. But right now, they're about 400 turkeys short.

"We never have a corporate sponsor. This is coming from people cashing in their points, and giving us free turkeys," Mark Baylis, Founder and President of VALOR, said.   If you can make a donation of food or cash, you can visit their Website - Holiday Meals Page

"I'm very confident in our community, I really am. They are a giving community," Collins said.
