WNEP Article Reports on VALOR Clinic Helping to Feed Veterans around Monroe County this Easter

KRESGEVILLE, Pa, MONROE COUNTY (16 WNEP) - Volunteers with the Valor Clinic Foundation are getting into the hustle and bustle of another Holiday Meal distribution ahead of Easter. The food pantry at Camp Trexler, near Kresgeville, will feed more than 700 families.

"It is the one thing we can take off their plate for the holiday, so we don't have to have them worry about the food aspect. Everything is stressful in life, why can't we just provide this nice boxed meal that they just have to cook?" said Valor pantry manager Leia Collins.

The freezer may look like it is overflowing with turkey donations, but the food pantry manager at the Valor Clinic says they are far from their goal. Right now, they are short 400 turkeys.

"With the turkeys, there is no dietary restrictions; you don't have people with high blood pressure that can't have ham, or other any other medical conditions that they can't have ham because of the salt in it," says Collins.

Additional freezers are ready for donations ahead of the big packing marathon. Valor is also in need of produce items like potatoes, carrots, and onions.

On top of the holiday prep, Valor is also working on moving the food pantry from Camp Trexler to this location on Route 115 in Saylorsburg.

"It's been in the development probably 14 months, maybe, and we closed on the building on Monday," said Valor Clinic founder Mark Baylis. Baylis says this new space will provide easier access for volunteers and veterans getting a hand up on the home front.

Along with the holiday meal program, Valor has several other programs to help feed veterans all year round.

"We have a household goods program. Every time we furnish a veteran's apartment, we take bags of food and leave them in the cabinets for the vets to give them a jump start. We did 169 veteran apartments last year," explained Baylis.   To learn more about how you can help the Valor Clinic Foundation, click here
