More than 4,500 US troops spending Christmas in Iraq and Syria

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Veteran Ron Mahan of Amarillo served in Vietnam in the late 60s.

“Well, I was in Vietnam from March to September of ‘68. I got wounded in September ‘68,” said Mahan.

Although the incident occurred more than 50 years ago, he still harbors a reminder of the event even to this day.

“Whenever he was in Vietnam, he had gotten injured. He had shrapnel that went into his leg, and whenever that shrapnel went into the back of his leg, it put him in the hospital. He still got the shrapnel to the leg to this day,” said Eric Mahan, Ron’s son.
