The United Service Organizations (USO) on Tuesday honored the memory of country music icon Toby Keith, whom it considered a patriot committed to supporting military service members.
Keith, a producer of pro-American anthems who was loved by millions of fans, died on Monday at the age of 62 after a battle with cancer.
“Toby’s commitment to supporting the people serving in our nation’s military and their families around the world made him a beloved figure within the military community,” said USO CEO & President J.D. Crouch.
Keith reportedly participated in 18 USO tours starting in 2002, performing for more than a quarter of a million service members, the USO said.
“Toby served as an incredible example of the USO mission of always being by their side. His legacy will endure through his music and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those he touched,” Crouch further said.
The Military Warriors Support Foundation, a non-profit with a mission to provide crucial transitional support for our nation’s combat-wounded heroes, Gold Star spouses, and their families, worked with Keith in 2015 to support a local veteran and his family.
