LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. - VALOR Clinic Foundation is committed to serving the people that have served our country. One of the many things they do is hold monthly clinics to give out goods to homeless veterans and veterans in need.
VALOR Clinic calls them "Stand Downs."
"It's military jargon for when troops come in from the field, replenish their rations, rest up, take showers, clean their uniforms before they deploy and we essentially do the same thing for homeless veterans and veterans alike," said Mike Meining, Volunteer Veteran Outreach Coordinator for VALOR Clinic.
Each month they set up shop in various locations. On Saturday they stopped in Easton, we caught up with them in Bethlehem before they headed to Allentown. Each stop unloads trucks filled with goods.
"They're in need of a lot of things especially the ones that are living outside so we provide all the requirements that they may need for living in an outside environment. Tents, sleeping bags, clothing, boots, sneakers, toiletries, just about anything they need and it's all free," said Meining.
Each Stand Down is run by about 15 to 20 volunteers and VALOR is always looking for people who want to help. And the help is certainly appreciated by the people who bravely served our country.
"I think VALOR is one of the best organizations around, very proud of what they do. They've helped me out a lot personally," one veteran said.
"I thank God that I was able to serve and I can get this," said another veteran.
